Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to visit Jammu & Kashmir?
March–April for tulips and almond blossom, May–June for green meadows, September–November for autumn chinars and saffron flowers, and mid-December to March for snow and skiing in Gulmarg. Jammu and Katra are most comfortable from October to March. The guide has a full month-by-month planner.
Can I reach Srinagar by train in 2026?
Yes. Vande Bharat trains run from Jammu Tawi and SMVD Katra to Srinagar, crossing the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge. There is no direct Delhi–Srinagar train yet; you change at Katra or Jammu. Timings and fares are in the guide.
Will my prepaid SIM work in Kashmir?
No. Prepaid SIMs issued outside Jammu & Kashmir do not work there; postpaid connections do. The guide explains how to get a local SIM.
How many days do I need for Kashmir?
5–6 days cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and a Sonamarg day trip. Allow 7–8 days to add Vaishno Devi or Doodhpathri, and 9–12 days for Gurez or the Jammu hills.
Do I need a permit to visit Kashmir?
Indian travellers need no permit for the main destinations, only an original photo ID. Gurez needs registration (foreigners need prior permission), and Keran, Machil and Karnah need an online e-permit. Details are in the guide.
Is this a physical book?
No. It is a digital PDF eBook, delivered instantly by download. Nothing is shipped.
